The YMCA is where the Community comes together.  With a focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Y nurtures the potential of every youth, teen, adult and senior. With the importance of the YMCA in the local community and Mr. Karp’s 16+ years as an active Board Member, it is no surprise that Karp Associates has acted as owner’s representative and construction manager on a variety projects over many years. 

The Zone

The YMCA’s demand for additional fitness space required the adaptive reuse of its underutilized old and tired space into what is dubbed “The Zone”. An amazing transformation from three 1930’s squash/racquetball courts to the latest in functional training, stretching/plyometrics, sports performance and rehabilitation-type activities.

The new fitness area includes a DuraFlex rubber floor for maximum shock absorption, premium sports turf, TRX suspension training straps, heavy bag and kick boxing stations, tubing stations, training ropes and agility equipment.   

Executive Offices

When the YMCA needed to convert an old rifle range into its Executive Office space, it became a Karp Associates’ construction management project, from concept to completion.   The finished new executive space provides the directors and staff with an appropriate environment to pursue their mission for the community. 

Health & Fitness Center

When the YMCA needed help recovering from a summer storm that flooded its Health and Fitness Center they again called on Karp Associates.  This workout facility was used 18 hours/day, 7 days/week so it was imperative to get the facility back on line as soon as possible.  In less than 5 days, we had the space back to full operation, including having the bamboo floor completely replaced, new walls installed and a water remediation system installed and operating.

Parking Lot

Due to the success of its fitness expansion, the Y asked Karp Associates to build an additional lot to accommodate its growing membership.  This lot needed to be functional for members but also visually screened from neighboring homes.  Furthermore, we needed to build with a mindful eye on the high-pressure natural gas lines lying beneath the lot. 

Camp Cabin

The summer camp run by the YMCA in a local park operated out of a cabin built sometime in the 1940s only being “improved” over the last 25 years with a few coats of paint.  The Y’s Director contacted Karp Associates to see if we could make this dilapidated cabin more usable for the start of camp in 6 days.  With no budget for repair and no Town funds available, we proceeded to consult the Y staff to learn what changes they wished to see in the cabin.  In an effort to give back to our community, we rebuilt the structure with all of the design elements requested using material from our warehouse and suppliers.
